A certification course in:
Working with Astrology:
Principles and Practice of Contemporary Psychological Astrology
A six-month online interactive course in professional applied practice of astrology
✰ April through September 2012 ✰
We will be using “Go To Meeting” – a virtual classroom: Moderator Kristi King
The interactive and personally designed program for the enrolled students is a three-term course of six weeks each. Each class is 2 hours, and there is a three-week sabbatical between each of the three terms. In this time you can do a creative project, read, or do nothing! Which is creative in terms of rest and absorption . . . the pause that refreshes.
The Full Course in Professional Development Skills in Practice begins as Mars stations direct, and runs from April 18th through week of September 12th, (including the two sabbatical sessions the first is 3 wks, the second is 4 wks).
Each class will be recorded, so if you have to miss one or so, due to life, then you will be able to download it, and thus, not miss any material or the handout/s.
The dates are below in the full curriculum and will be held on Wednesdayevenings.
The times for each Wednesday class are:
5 pm Pacific Time
6 pm Mountain Time
7 pm Central Time
8 pm Eastern Time
Attached along with this syllabus, is an article for you to read before registering:
Working with Astrology:
Contemporary Astrology And Archetypal Motifs
The course will be followed by a two-day capstone master class symposium in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in mid-October (date t.b.a) during off-season rates and lovely climate. The seminar is highly encouraged but not mandatory for completion, and is open to the public.
Upon completion of the course you will be given consultant astrologer certification in Principles and Practice of Contemporary Psychological Astrology
- Each of the three six–week terms will focus on gradual, increasing levels of understanding, interpretation and the practice of astrology.
- There is a three-week sabbatical break between each term (two breaks)
- The six-month course is followed by an optional two-day seminar - focusing on depth astrological techniques and interpretation. We will work with individuals who are volunteer practicum ‘clients’ in the seminar. You are also encouraged to practice while we are learning!
- The course is designed to further deepen the student’s understanding of the principles, philosophy and practical application in astrology. We will focus on counseling of clients in objective, caring and compassionate fashion. Though the structure is fixed, it will ‘morph’ depending on the students, and will develop its own direction as we work together over time . . .
- A reading list will be given to registered students.
SEMESTER ONE: April 18th – May 16th
Principles of the Practice:
- 1. Introduction to the Philosophy of Contemporary Psychological Astrology: The principles and practice, using astrology as an analytic experience on all levels: philosophy of practice; psychological; practical and archetypal integration of signs, symbols and meaning. (Q and A sessions in this introductory ‘getting to know’ each other.)
- 2. The Houses as Circuits of Development: The 12 houses are taught in an original and unique fashion, that begins the development of practical and depth understanding of character development and results: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable houses are each (four) taught as cycles of becoming . . . get to the core of psychological complexes, and see that evolution and this class delineates each of the three fascinating and unique characteristics of the Twelve Houses as origins, manifestation and (handouts – 3)
- 3. The Planets: as agencies of the psyche, how they are ‘translated’ into action and manifestation of natural behaviors, emotions, complexes, meaning and being in the world.
- 4. The Planetary Aspects: The angles each planet makes to another is a conversation. How these conversations manifest in behavior and understanding is unique to the planets making this connection. “Aspect” means “to regard, “to look at” . . . and converse with, in the case of planets being agencies of the psyche and emerging in personality. We will look in depth, at the major aspects in their natural evolution and phases: from the Con. Sex. Sq. tr. Quin. Opp. and back (handouts)
- 5. Complex Configurations: In various periods of time, the planets ‘conspire’ to form unique and complex relationships between each other – they are very distinct ‘conversations’ and are at the core of planetary circuits of enclosure and opportunity . . . they are called a Stellium (groups of 3 planets or more); Yod; Grand Trine; Kite; Grand Cross; T-square. We will only cover these key configurations though there many finely tuned harmonic patterns, but not as commonly formed as these. (Handout)
** n.b. There will be 7 classes in the next semester, due to the UAC conference.
Creative Break: three weeks - May 17th – June 5th
UAC conference, New Orleans . . . May 24th – 28th
SEMESTER TWO: June 6th – July 18th
Synthesis: The Helping Profession
Astrology in the Counseling/Analytic Practice
This semester will focus on the practice of working with real people’s charts. One of the most significant and important that astrology has for the client is helping them with NOW and future trends, transit themes and timing . . . for growth in self-awareness and confidence and planning. The ‘job’ of a good astrologer is to give the client information that fosters self-understanding in the context of developmental cycles, and psychological processes/issues - and how they unfold over a process of transits and time.
- 1. Midpoints: The vital infrastructure of the horoscope. The combination of planetary pairs and meeting points between natal planets – this is an essential measurement and is the ‘skeleton’ of the horoscope. The surface of a chart is just that . . . by using selective midpoints, those which meet at the degree/s of a natal planet or on an angle are profoundly important in understanding ‘unseen’ harmonic relationships in the psyche. We will use the “360 degree sort” for midpoints (found in all astrology software programs) . . . from Aries to Pisces. (Handout)
- 2. Sourcing Complexes: here we focus on how psychological complexes constellate around a core configuration or planet in the horoscope. Examples
- 3. Relationships: sourcing parental ‘complexes’. Natal keys to issues/relationships with authority, in intimacy. Examples
- 4. Chart interpretation/synthesis 1 – real charts, real people, life examples
- 5. Chart interpretation/synthesis 2 - continued
- 6. Chart interpretation/synthesis 3 - continued
- 7. Chart interpretation/synthesis 4 – continued
** n.b Creative Break: July 19th – August 7th (this break is a bit longer)
SEMESTER THREE: August 8th – September 12th
Techniques in Timing: Movement in the horoscope
Here we focus on advising clients on their past, current and future trends – analyzing and giving insight to timing and trends both psychological and pragmatic – and interaction with the students with questions, examples and comments
- 1. Secondary Progressions: The use of secondary progressions and how to discriminate their impact and actual usefulness as themes for the slow, evolutionary backdrop of the life path. Naibod secondary progressed planets are a symbolic movement - unlike transits. We look to highlighted years where a progressed planet is in exact aspect to a natal planet.
- 2. Transits 1: The “intention” of transits, their agency, as extensions of the natal horoscope. This is a basic overview of the theory of transits, and how to approach transits from a psychological, developmental process. As well, we will work with transits for pragmatic reasons, house sale, legal timing, job/career timing, and so on - the life issues that clients always want illuminated. (Visuals)
- 3. Transits 2: Inner planets. We will look at the seasonal transit of the Moon, Sun, Mercury and Venus and their foundational establishment of early development and how that lays the archetypal foundation for identity and relationship to inner and outer life.
- 4. Transits 3: How to visualize, diagram and synthesize transits to the natal chart. This class will focus on the planets from Saturn to Pluto, and their long cycles, and the power of the repeated (retrograde/station/direct) passes of these planets over a single degree in the chart. (Visuals)
- 5. Transits 4: Here we will explore and learn how to synchronize the major configurations of Saturn and the outer planets as they form together, over periods of months – depending on the major cycles – long term analysis of trends.
- 6. Retrograde Planets: Introduced in natal and transit application. (Assigned Chapters in my book)
