A Gemini, his mind was his playground, as well as his shadow-box. In this book, which I edited periodically over a decade, and finally honed it to its published phase during 2001, I could hear him again, his words living on the page, making me laugh, cry and be just simply overwhelmed by the sheer force of his intellect and his humanity. Jim Lewis died on February 21, 1995 at home in San Francisco, with his closest friends and sister at his side.
